Feasibility study for the advanced design of a vessel for collecting floating waste and plastics processing

The C. T. SOERMAR Foundation, together with Astilleros Zamakona, S.A, Freire Shipyard, S.A. and Energy and Industrial Engineering Studies, E2I2C2, carried out a study to determine the feasibility of designing the first prototype for the collection of floating waste and plastics processing, which will give rise to the first vessel specialized in this field, for the collection, processing and transformation on board of floating waste.

The Challenge

Make available to governmental and non-governmental organizations the possibility of building a new technologically differentiated prototype for the fight against maritime pollution caused by floating waste.

THE SOLUTION

Design the first prototype for collecting floating waste and processing plastics.

THE Results

Obtain a viable and functional solution that allows meeting the objectives established in the United Nations Environmental Program and by the European Waste Framework Directive, in relation to the reduction, management and recycling of marine waste.
